Clínica CEMTRO’s Shoulder Unit performs over 20,000 medical consultations and 1,500 surgeries each year with excellent results.
The team for the Shouder unit is led by Dr. Santiago Araúz and specializes in arthroscopy, joint replacements and shoulder fractures. It is specially concerned with post-op functional recovery so as to return to the patient’s everyday activity promptly, hence the promotion of shoulder arthroscopy, a minimally invasive procedure.

SHOULDER LUXATION RELAPSE
SHOULDER ARTHROSCOPY
Clínica CEMTRO performs over 600 shoulder arthroscopies each year with excellent results. As a technique which depends on the surgeons expertise, the high number of cases surgeons go through yearly, support the unit’s high level of skill.
Amongst minimally invasive techniques, shoulder arthroscopy has undergone unprecedented advancements in the last 15 years, becoming the most arthroscopied joint after the knee.
New surgical and anaesthetic techniques, together with post-op protocols have enabled surgeons to perform more complex procedures with less pain and fewer complications than traditional surgery, shortening recovery periods.
Such an approach warrants an unhostile approach to the most frequent shoulder problems such as tendinitis, rotator cuff injuries, shoulder luxations or Banckart injury.

SHOULDER OA
SHOULDER JOINT REPLACEMENTS
Chronic lesions of the rotator cuff and shoulder OA are truly limiting conditions due to both pain and joint dysfunction.
When conventional treatments fail, replacing the shoulder joint may indeed offer highly satisfactory results, controlling pain and returning joint mobility.
Despite this fact, most patients suffering from shoulder OA are not treated for shoulder replacement. The shoulder unit in Clínica CEMTRO has great experience in performing this procedure.
The rate of success is comparable to that of hip and knee replacements whilst not forgetting that a correct surgical indication and the surgeon’s experience are key factors.
The shoulder unit in Clínica CEMTRO iss speciaolized in this type of replacement which we believe are underused despite their high rate of success.
The main cause for opting for a shoulder replacement is the presence of shoulder OA, representing 50% of all shoulder replacement surgeries. Other causes include rotator cuff arthropathies, fracture sequels, avascular necrosis and arthropathy due to instability. Shoulder replacements have undergone significant improvements in the last few years and are currently considered a consolidated alternative in constant evolution.
Clinica CEMTRO’s shoulder unit also uses the latest software to plan 3D surgeries in order to significantly improve function, mobility and final result in shoulder implants.
PROXIMAL SHOULDER FRACTURE
FRACTURE OF THE HEAD OF HUMERUS
Shoulder fractures represent a serious problem for seniors’ health, especially since they are commonly caused by falls combined with bone demineralization, representing the most common fracture in this population segment, closely following radius and hip fractures.
