Clinica CEMTRO operates more than 1,500 meniscus injuries and ligaments each year. He also performs more than 500 knee prosthetic surgeries.

An increase in physical activities and sport participation has carried with it a proportional increase in the incidence of knee injuries.

TORN CRUCIATE LIGAMENT
TORN MENISCUS
Knee arthroscopy is one of the most common surgical procedures in trauma and with it, ligament and meniscus injuries can be precisely diagnosed, cartilage lesions detected and assessed and some of the patellar and tibial fractures treated by minimally invasive procedures.
Being a minimally invasive procedure, it provides patients with many advantages, as long as it is carried out by a skilled and experienced surgeon with detailed anatomical knowledge and the use of specifically designed surgical instruments.
Clínica CEMTRO is a pioneering hospital in knee arthroscopy, performing over two thousand knee arthroscopies per year.
In 1977, Dr. Pedro Guillén introduced arthroscopy in Spain, revolutionizing the diagnosis and treatment of joint injuries and performing well over 40k interventions. In 2007, he created the third generation of arthroscopy: the wireless arthroscopy device (WAD) which reduces total procedure time, number of infections and makes arthroscopies outside the OR a possibility.
Indications for knee arthroscopy:
Over 1500 ligaments and menisci are repaired every year at Clínica CEMTRO. These structures are often damaged by sports practice, when the knee is suddenly twisted or even by direct trauma against the side of the knee. Ligament injury, specially that of Anterior Cruciate Ligament (ACL) as well as meniscus injury produce pain and instability of the knee and will, if not properly managed, eventually lead to OA and possibly to joint replacement.
KNEE IMPLANT
UNICOMPARTIMENTAL IMPLANTS
Knee OA is a degenerative, chronic process which slowly erodes the joint cartilage, producing pain and dysfunction of the knee.
When more conservative treatments fail, knee implants are a way of managing pain and getting the knee’s full range of motion back. Currently, knee implants are an option with many alternatives based on the patient’s age and possible causes leading to OA. From unicompartimental implants to tailor-made ones.
Over 300 knee implants are performed at Clínica CEMTRO every year by the Knee Unit, with a very patient-specific solution for every case. IN fact, Clínica CEMTRO is the hospital in Spain to have performed the highest number of personalized implants.
